Underwater gardens

FLOODING at St Julians Allotment last Sunday caused a headache for plotholders at the Charnwood Road end of the site.
Many members will doubtless remember the problems of a few years back when the reen, which at the time had become a dumping ground for garden waste and discarded rubbish, burst its banks and left plots across the bottom of the site under six or seven inches of water.
When work took place to clear the ditch it looked as if that was the end of the problem, however heavy rain on Saturday into Sunday once again saw many plots only fit for growing rice.
The committee has been in touch with the council in a bid to find out the cause of this recurring problem and discuss possible ways to prevent it happening again.
